Slovenia enjoys a multitude of climatic variations. At different parts of the country one can experience Subalpine, temperate Subalpine, Mediterranean and Continental types of climate.
The Alpine region of the country receives abundant precipitation that usually hovers over 2500 mm, more than half of which falls as snow. Weather conditions change slightly as one veers towards the central part of the country, becoming temperate subalpine. Summers in this region are rather hot with temperature averages around 18-20 °C, sunshine abounds, annual precipitation ranges between 1300 and 1600 mm, and the area enjoys an average of 120 rainy days per year.
A Mediterranean type of climate dominates condition in the coastal part of Slovenia. Summers in this area are hot and dry, the winters are mild, sunshine abundant and annual precipitation ranges between 1100-1300 mm. The eastern parts of the country are also its driest, with some of its areas receiving as little as 900 mm annual precipitation. The climate is classified as a moderate continental with average air temperatures from 8-10 °C and an annual temperature around 23 °C.
As a whole, Slovenia experiences average temperatures around 21 °C during July, ascending rapidly when winter sets in, eventually reaching lows of 0 °C. The coastal areas tend to get very hot during the summer season while at the same time conditions remain cold in the mountains.
